I regularly patrol social media since it’s a great resource to connect and follow people that add something to my understanding of the world around me and my Christian beliefs. And then there are the other people that you read and you go…what?!?

This past week I saw a video from a person claiming to be highly educated and a scientist. This guy was attempting to make fun of a Christian pastor for his antiquated beliefs on homosexuality.

I’m paraphrasing, but this was his argument. Christians should give up their belief that homosexuality is a sin because science does not support it. He goes on with his justification by offering the observation that in the natural world, animals exhibit homosexual behavior all the time. I forget the particular animal he mentions in his video, but he claims this specific species exhibits almost 100% homosexual behavior! So if we see this behavior occurring regularly in the natural world, it’s a natural behavior and therefore should not be criticized, and certainly should not be classified as a moral issue and labeled as sin.

Now, I’m not a scientist, but I really don’t have to be to see the flaws in this kind of reasoning. And frankly, science does not support what he is saying either. In fact, science does not support evolution at all nor does it support any claims of homosexuality being a normal behavior. The reality is it supports the opposite.

Studies performed on homosexual behavior yield startling conclusions about the destructiveness of this lifestyle. If it was a normal behavior, one would expect the outcomes to show harmony with nature, but instead, nature seems to fight against it.

The Gay Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) includes the following detrimental effects for homosexuals: higher rates of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, depression/anxiety, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases (anal papilloma/HPV, gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia), certain cancers, alcohol abuse, tobacco use, eating disorders, and obesity.

I would ask our “highly educated” friend, do animals in the wild have these same issues? Probably not and I will get to the reasons why in a minute.

It also seems that for a normal behavior for animals in the wild, homosexuality is relatively rare in humans.

– The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates men having sex with other men to represent only 2% of the global population or 4% of the US population.

The University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center has studied homosexuality since the late 80’s and states that approximately only 2% of the U.S. population identifies as being gay, lesbian, or bisexual.

If this is true, why then don’t we see more homosexuality in humans if it’s a normal behavior?

Because human beings are made in the image of God. They have a conscience and reason right from wrong. Atheists/evolutionists would have us believe humans are no different than animals, but Christians know that we have been created to have dominion over God’s creation, not destined to be like the animals that God created. We have responsibilities and the blessing to be in fellowship with God and to worship Him. And unlike animals, we suffer consequences for not worshipping and giving glory to our Creator.

Even the arguments of evolutionists, like the young man who made the video, fall flat on their face in view of common sense and reason.

The premise of evolution itself, as theorized and written about by a young Charles Darwin, is that nature will weed or “select out” weaker specie anomalies as they evolve. The very foundation of this belief relies on the activity of procreation. In Darwinism, species must procreate for the natural selection process to take place. If a species does not, it won’t survive. It will be selected out.

So how do we respond to homosexuality now being promoted as “natural” and therefore not sinful?

Christians can stand on solid ground with answers rooted in Godly wisdom, but also common sense in our reply.

Here is where I stand:

Of course homosexuality is a natural behavior. Why? Because everything in creation is natural. It all occurs in nature! What the atheist/evolutionist fails to understand is just because something is natural (occurring in nature), does not mean it’s normal.

If the theory of evolution is to hold any scientific credibility, then natural selection demands that species engage more and more in normative behaviors that promote the best outcomes for that given species. Engaging in sexual activities that don’t promote the propagation of the species so evolution can then take place, would not be normative and work against the process.

And furthermore, it can be cited with hard evidence that humans engaging in sexual activities that are not normative for the propagation of the species suffer harmful health effects, the very outcome you would expect in the process of natural selection. The process is “selecting out” these anomalies. So the argument this young man is making does not bear up under his own belief system.

In fact, if you are a rational thinker and believe the earth is millions of years old, it begs the question why is there any homosexual behavior at all? If evolution is a proven fact of science, which means natural selection is the active process in play, one needs to question why this behavior still occurs. To genuinely believe in evolution, one would have to commit to reason that the core driving instinct among all species would be the act of procreation. It’s the engine that drives all of the improved outcomes of an evolving species. If that’s true, after millions of years, is homosexual behavior not an evidential issue that the process is not working? One would think the process of natural selection would have easily selected out this behavior eons ago. Unless there is another explanation that is.

Could it be that the very homosexuality that atheists/evolutionists seek to defend is the very thing that causes the whole system of evolution to crumble under scientific scrutiny?

However, Christians know that there is another explanation altogether. We know we live in a fallen world and there is sin, and that sin leads to judgement, both temporal and eternal. We know that people who worship the natural fail to see the spiritual and incur the consequences for doing so.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Rom 1:19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

Rom 1:20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Rom 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Rom 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Rom 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Rom 1:24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

Rom 1:25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;

Rom 1:27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Rom 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

Rom 1:29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,

Rom 1:30 haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,

Rom 1:31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

Rom 1:32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

And lastly,

1Co 2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

Factually, the Bible lines up with the scientific facts of homosexuality and provides much better support for the existence and consequences of the behavior.
